Why I’m Running for the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress
My name is Zach Lebowitz, and I’m proud to be running in support of the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress (MDSC)—an organization that has made a profound difference in the lives of my family and so many others across the state.
My beautiful 3-year-old daughter, Tova Rose, was born with Down syndrome. She’s truly the light of our family—her smile is infectious, her joy is unmatched, and her presence lights up every room she enters. She has changed our lives in all the best ways, and I’m committed to doing everything I can to support her journey and those of families just like ours.
What many people don’t know is how much strength it takes—mentally, emotionally, and physically—to walk this path as a parent. MDSC has been there for us every step of the way. They provide critical support from the moment of diagnosis, offering resources, community connections, and guidance when families need it most. From early intervention services and educational advocacy, to parent support networks, legislative advocacy, and self-advocate programs, the MDSC is a true lifeline.
They work tirelessly to ensure that people with Down syndrome are seen, heard, included, and celebrated. They give families like mine a community to lean on, and the tools to help our children thrive.
Personally, I’ve also been on a journey of transformation. Two years ago, I weighed 340 pounds. My doctor told me bluntly—if I wanted to see my kids graduate high school, I had to make a change. So I did. I’ve lost over 125 pounds, and in the process, found a new love for running. Every mile I run now is for my three kids—Augie (AJ), Delaney, and Tova—and the life I’ve committed to building with and for them.
That’s why I’ve decided to run the Falmouth Road Race to raise funds and awareness for MDSC. This cause is incredibly personal, and I want to use my story—and Tova’s radiant spirit—to help others. I believe we can raise real money and spread real awareness for an organization that gives so much to so many.
If you’ve ever been inspired by Tova’s smile, our story, or the incredible work MDSC does, I hope you’ll support us—whether by donating, sharing, or simply cheering us on.
From the bottom of my heart—thank you.
With gratitude,
Zach “Lebo” Lebowitz
